GREY DOOR NEWSLETTER
SEPTEMBER 2020
So here we are - Autumn is peeking around the corner, the children are back at school and our
happy clinic is open for therapies, we have so much news to share with you.
Deborah Brown our TRE Provider, Brainspotting and Craniosacral therapist has been working
since we reopened on the 4th July, Helen Zeida one of our Life Coaches has been working from the clinic
and I began back at the clinic with face 2 face therapy on the 7th July.
Kayti started back at the clinic on Monday 13th July, being able to practice limited treatments,
that changed quickly and we are now back in full business.
Clients are asked to wear their own face mask or put on a face mask we provide and to sanitise
their hands before they come upstairs to the clinic.
All talking therapies have a perspex screen between the practitioner and the client and we are providing water
in disposable paper cups.
There is never more that one client at a time on the stairs and each practitioner sanitises the space after each client. There is hand sanitiser and anti-bacterial wipes in every room.
Kayti and I have decided that we will also be using a non-contact infra-red thermometer to ensure that no client enters the clinic with a temperature.
At first I found this way of working very strange but it quickly became the ‘norm’.
The most AMAZING news is that we now have our
own room scent products,
GREY DOOR OIL BURNER BLEND AND ROOM MIST
on sale at the clinic and on our website!
Those of you who have been to us will have smelt it - frankincense, organic lavender, organic lemongrass
and organic bergamot and the smell is stunning!
Kayti has been meticulous in ensuring that all the ingredients are as much as possible, organic and ethically sourced - even the spring water used is from Pear Tree Spring water in nearby Uckfield.
The bottles are glass and all packaging and labels are either paper, cloth, 100% recyclable and biodegradable.
We are very excited and proud of our new venture and do hope that you love it too.
Pop over to our website shop for purchase options.

Kayti now stocks the best facial beauty tool called a Gua Sha.
Use daily at night, over the face and/or body.
This handy little tool does it all, an instant facelift and your best skin ever.
Done consistently, Gua Sha helps to improve the function of the skin which helps with many skin conditions; Deep lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, rosacea, acne, acne scars, pigmentation, dark circles, puffiness. It retrains the muscles of the face, relaxing them, strengthening, lifting and toning.
Gua Sha is an incredibly relaxing therapy that is performed using gentle strokes to massage, manipulate and stimulate specific energy lines and points along the face. This helps to promote healthy lymph flow by releasing toxins that have been stuck. It also helps to iron out the fascia [connective tissue] that is affected by tension which creates a beautiful lift in the face.
Ask us about them when you come in!!
We have had a number of new practitioners enquiring about our fabulous rooms to rent at Grey Door and three new practitioners have joined us - Jessica who is a facial aesthetics practitioner, Melissa who is a Reiki practitioner and Liz who is an Acupuncturist. All of them are brilliant professionals in their field and this is an indication that our lovely clinic is going to rise out of this very strange phenomenon that is COVID.
We are busy, buzzing and vibrant and breathing magic in Hove!

JUNE 2020
Beginning of June and we are continuing to social distance.
Our lives away from the clinic continue along like many others who are unable to work as we are used to.
It was Kayti’s birthday at the end of May and we had a social distancing breakfast
in the garden at our house. Her sister surprised her with a visit and then her lovely friends had arranged a
treasure hunt for her. There were clues left on the driveways of different friends
which culminated with cards, lots of wine and lots of flowers.
All carried out within the permitted safety guidelines and she had a fabulous day.

We of course have had the wonderful consolation of this magnificent weather.
Sunshine and blue skies day after day and Ruby and Will have been swimming and spending
glorious social distancing days on the beach.

glorious social distancing days on the beach.
With her birthday cash Kayti bought herself a paddle board. Needless to say the children and her are going to have many fabulous hours on it and I for one cannot wait to be able to get down there to watch them!
Ruby and Will have also learned to skate board! We are expecting lots of ‘carves’ and ‘Caballerials’ and ‘airs’ from them in the not too distant future!!
CoCo very much likes to deter marauders from walking past her house and as a result she starts barking at one end of the house and chases through to the garden barking all the time until she is sure that any buccaneers or unwelcome intruders are well and truly terrified on their way!
Not something that endears us to the neighbours so we invested in a bark deterrent collar which has been amazing. When she barks it emits a high pitched sound which she does not like and detracts her and she stops barking. We are now able to stop apologising to the neighbours.
During this time of not being able to see her clients Kayti has reupholstered two chairs from one of the therapy rooms at Grey Door. She has done an amazing job and they look absolutely fabulous.

On the subject of resuming a new normal, we are hoping to open our doors next month
and some of our practitioners are starting to take bookings for when we open in July,
take a look at our Instagram pages to see who and when that will be.
Our incredible aesthetics practitioner Eloise Meldrum is hoping to be back working on the 18th July, Kayti will be back opening the door, fingers crossed on the 4th July.
Of course all guidelines will be followed - those practitioners who are ‘hands on’ will be in full
Personal Protective Equipment for their and your own wellbeing and disposable masks and sanitisers in
every room will be provided for the protection of our lovely clients.
We will have a system in place that ensures only one person at a time is on the stairs or on the landing and there will be no ‘waiting’ for your appointment within the building.

GREY DOOR NEWSLETTER
MAY 2020
Well as of the 1st of this month - May - we will be under 40 days of Lockdown. New words that have swiftly entered our lexicon - lockdown, social isolation, social distancing, personal protective equipment, COVID-19 and I am sure a few more. I don’t know how society will look by the time you read this as the social scenery changes day by day - and of course not only our society but worldwide.
Our lovely Grey Door Clinic stands alone and empty and although Kayti goes in regularly to ensure all is safe and well, we and I’m sure all our fabulous practitioners miss it so much. We can’t wait to open those doors again to welcome our regular clients and hopefully to welcome many new ones. Our Grey Door Clinic is a thriving hub of professionalism, hard work, innovation, diversity and laughter that is going from strength to strength and this virus is just a hiatus in our exciting journey.
In the meantime we like the rest of the world are doing as we are asked and staying home. Which brings us to how we are spending our time!
Kayti as you know has two of the most adorable children on this planet - Ruby and Will -
and is homeschooling them.

In the meantime we like the rest of the world are doing as we are asked and staying home. Which brings us to how we are spending our time!
Kayti as you know has two of the most adorable children on this planet - Ruby and Will -
and is homeschooling them.
Homeschooling at this time is not an easy task as I’m sure all you parents will testify. The schools have been hit with the task of cobbling together some remote programmes at very short notice and this is all proving to be a testing time for the children, educators and parents alike. To add to the difficulties of homeschooling was the extremely wonderful clement weather we experienced in April. During this time Kayti found that Ruby and Will much preferred the delights of the trampoline to whatever school work they had been set!
The situation did lead to some serious tension and Kayti quite rightly decided that she would take control of the situation and get the children to concentrate on the fundamentals of maths and english and a set reading list.
I also remembered and told Ruby of a series that was on the television in the 80’s called
Shakespeare’s Animated Tales which are half hour animated stories of a selection of the Bard’s most popular tales. She found them on U-Tube and I think has really enjoyed them.
I know that my youngest daughter Sophie loved them and it gave her the love she had today for
many forms of literature.
Kayti is also widening her cooking repertoire with a ‘no waste’ agenda. She has always been fantastic at not wasting food but has now upped her game during this weird time.

Both Kayti and I love DIY. Kayti has spruced up her bedroom and back doors, has started on the floor of her downstairs bathroom and is bracing herself to decorate her sitting room.
I have decided to take this opportunity to decorate a tiny bedroom. So far I have filled in holes and gaps, rubbed down the paintwork and painted the bed. I am waiting for my husband to make some bookshelves before I start painting the walls. I’m not sure of the colours yet but I want something very pretty.
In addition I have painted the table and chairs in the conservatory - the same colour as the bed as I didn’t want to waste the paint I had left over!

There is a snag in that we have to store the old carpet etc. in the back of the car awaiting refuse centres to reopen.
I’m sure many of you have relatives or friends who are working in some capacity on the front line -
medical practitioners, police, fire fighters, carers, shop assistants, post people,
food production and many more that I haven’t mentioned.
In our family we have two of those front liners - my eldest daughter and Kayti’s sister Natasha who works for
Sussex Police and Natasha’s partner Adam who is a fire fighter in Hove. We are very proud of them and all those front liners as I’m sure you are all too. It has been said before in other arenas and I am going to mention it again here that it is so interesting and refreshing how the idea of hero and ‘celebrity’ has changed -
we now revere and acknowledge those amongst us who are undoubtedly the real champions.
Speaking of champions - many of you will have seen or know about Huey who is Kayti’s little miniature dachshund. This character who has been part of our family for 14 years is now virtually blind and is generally slowing down. He cannot manage any lengthy walks anymore but absolutely adores any food or treats that he is given, relishes cuddles with Kayti or the children in bed or on the sofa and snores very loudly every night tucked up under Kayti’s duvet at the end of her bed.

On the subject of our dogs ………… Coco chewed a tube of superglue and although I managed to cut out lumps from her head and legs there still remained a large hard lump which was stuck to her foot which she wouldn’t leave alone. I thought that if I could allow the hair to grow I could inch scissors beneath it and cut it off. I tried a Buster collar which proved too small, an inflatable collar which she was able to remove and socks taped to her foot which she was able to rid herself off in record time.
During the times when she had managed to liberate herself from the trappings of recovery she had masochistically ripped the hardened glue lump from her foot and left an extremely sore area. She now has a Buster collar for a much larger dog which seems to be doing the trick. A few more days and I think the sore place will be healed enough for her to leave it be. Hopefully! But then it is Coco we are talking about here.
Our dogs are part of our Grey Door landscape and what I think makes us unique in the therapy world.

Those of you who visit our clinic are often noticing and mentioning the lovely smell you experience
when you come through our grey door.
Well, with the help of the amazing Sophie Joseph (essentialblends) , Kayti and I have decided to produce our own special fragrance which will include aromatherapy oil and room sprays.
The products will be especially made for us locally and will incorporate the magic of frankincense, organic lavender, lemongrass and bergamot. As much as possible we have tried to keep the production from start to finish
as local as possible.
Watch this space to share with us on our exciting new venture!
But in the meantime we all get on with what we have to; we endure the hardship of not hugging the ones we love, we stay at home to keep ourselves and others safe and we hope and pray to whatever or whoever works for us that we and as many as possible come through this hidden enemy alive and well.
Stay safe.

GREY DOOR NEWSLETTER
APRIL 2020
Welcome to another edition of our monthly newsletter.
Well ............. I have recently returned from a trip to Dubai to visit my youngest daughter and her husband and little boy. (If we had left it another week we would not have been able to go as flights from the UK to the UAE were all cancelled.) Whilst we were there the amenities slowly closed down but generally life continued as normal. The supermarkets were all open and stocked and there did not seem to be a 2 metre distancing rule. In fact taking a walk along the promenade of Kite Beach and us keeping a safe distance from everyone, we were very surprised to see the sun worshippers on the beach dangerously close to each other. We kept up with the news of what was happening back home but it somehow did not seem quite real.
Then we returned home to a very different UK to the one we had left where restaurants, pubs, cinemas and leisure centres etc had all closed their doors. Now it has very swiftly changed again and we are advised not to leave our houses unless we are shopping for essential items, going to work or are taking exercise. What a strange and weird worldly phenomenon we are living through right now.
With very heavy hearts Kayti and I have obviously had to close Grey Door and say ‘au revoir’ to our lovely practitioners for what we hope will not be for very long. We are however keeping our clinic ‘live’ through social media and our website so do please stay in touch with us - we would love to hear from you. We are hatching a few ideas for new ventures in the future so watch this space!

In the meantime Kayti and I are working from our homes with a little help from children and of course CoCo.
We can all maybe utilise this time as a time of slowness and reflection and perhaps take the space to learn another skill or even take the space to recognise the important things in life which perhaps
we had not acknowledged before?
As humans we are naturally tribal and the need for others is a basic instinct.
So forced aloneness can often have a negative impact on wellbeing and psychological
health for every strata of society.
If we remember that for hundreds of years solitary confinement has been metered out as punishment then it is not surprising that this similar situation can and does scare many people. Being alone and feeling lonely can cause huge stress and there will be times when the situation seems overwhelming but there are ways to help relieve this.
I know there is a myriad of information out there about being with this situation but I have made a short list of points that may be of help to some of you.
Self-care
This is very important. Take the time to care for your self mentally, psychologically and physically. Try some meditation, yoga, mindfulness and something to get your body moving. If this is difficult for you try some chair work. At the moment there is a lot of help on line so take a look and access what interests you. If the internet is not available to you then perhaps an exercise video? If you are able get outside for walk or run then do take advantage of this lovely weather - remembering the social distancing.
Take this opportunity to be creative in the kitchen and eat healthily now that perhaps you have more time to spend there. Check out what’s lurking at the back of the freezer!
Take a shower, wear something nice, put on perfume or aftershave!
Normalising the situation
If you are well and not sick and you are able to work from home then this can really help. It can be easy to lose any sense of routine so do try and create structure to your day. For instance go to bed and get up at the same time every day. If you are not working then give yourself a list of tasks for each day. Maybe a good time to dig over that rough area in the garden or finally sort out your wardrobe!
Make contact with people in other ways
As I said earlier we are tribal and instinctively need human connection. Why not make a list of friends and family and keep it somewhere easy to see so when you are feeling particularly lonely you can keep those phone calls regular and maybe if you don’t already, have a go at Skyping or Whats App or FaceTime. There is an App called House Party which enables you to connect with a number of people simultaneously and on this there is the facility to join in with quizzes or play games, giving you a sense of being together.
Reframe
If you are able to reframe your thinking and accept a lack of control it can be a huge relief. For example is it a nice feeling not to have to face that commute to work? Is there a book that you have been meaning to read forever? Are there films that have been recommended to you and you have not had the time to watch them? Is there something you want to learn that can now be given the head space that you didn’t have before?
However please do remember that ‘this too shall pass’ and you don’t have to ‘make the most of this pandemic.’ Actually what you might need to do is rest - and that’s absolutely OK too.

this has to happen in order for something new and wonderful to emerge’

Kayti in fact has lived in Hove - just around the corner in Poets Corner - for 20 years and her children go to very local schools.
We love what we do and Grey Door is our passion and pleasure. Behind our grey door front door we are so very fortunate to have a number of wonderful, friendly, qualified and professional practitioners who make up the team that is our clinic. When you are passing do take a look at the therapies that are offered and please do help yourself to a leaflet that is available to you by the front steps. The skills and expertise of our practitioners is incredibly varied and each one is extremely proficient in their own right.
If you want to pay attention to yourself in a way that works for you; be it talking therapy, beauty therapy, acupuncture, reflexology, sports massage, facial enhancements, nutritional advice, hypnotherapy, cranial sacral or physiotherapy, then look no further. Our clinic has your well-being at the heart of everything we do. In addition - and certainly as important - if you are a qualified professional who is looking to expand or activate your business then do please give us a call and come in for a chat. Whether a potential client or possible future practitioner, come and give us a visit – we have recently added a rather pretty wrought iron canopy to our front door which is flanked by two bay trees and we think looks rather fetching!
I cannot go any further without mentioning a very treasured part of Grey Door and that is a four legged curly creature who actually doesn’t know she is a dog. Coco works with me in my therapy room and is almost always very well behaved. There have been a couple of incidents where she has let herself down a little but luckily the clients that were in the room at the time found her behaviour amusing! She has grown up somewhat now and it has been a long time since she has transgressed!
Grey Door had a couple of babies born during the last year. Louise our reflexologist had a baby boy to produce a hat trick of sons! Then Sebastien our massage therapist had a little girl. To add to the babies, Nina our sports massage therapist is due her baby in the summer. Watch this space. On the subject of babies it is lovely to be in the clinic when Louise is running her baby reflexology classes – happy babies and happy mums!
We have had a number of fund raising activities over the last five years but undoubtedly the most successful, the most amazing, the most audacious and the one that was one big adventure was Kayti’s trip to the Amazon jungle!
There is a little known charity based in East Sussex called the ABC charity which stands for ‘The Anne Bickmore Children’s Fund’. This charity was set up in 1991, initially to enable children to support disadvantaged children.
As the funds grew it was decided to apply for charity status and this was granted in 2005.
All money raised is spent directly for the benefit of children and the team are completely voluntary and unpaid. They offer enjoyable opportunities to children, young people and their carers; particularly those with disabilities or special needs and they aim to put a smile on the faces of families who live with illness and disabilities day in and day out, year in and year out.
ABC provides trips and treats for children who need a break and a day to remember so Kayti went into the jungle to raise funds for this very worthwhile cause. She raised £4888.00!
This trip to the Amazon is not for the faint-hearted! During her time in the in the sticky heat of the jungle Kayti cooked the fish she had caught on an open fire (this included Piranha caught with a hook and line!), ate grubs from the trees – which she says tasted like coconut when it was raw and chicken when cooked and made her own hammock to sleep in at night under the jungle canopy.

Instead of an alarm clock Kayti awoke to the sound of Howler monkeys and many a day was spent canoeing along the Amazon River in the pouring tropical rain – completely soaked to the skin and loving every minute of it. She experienced Vultures flying overhead and swam in the pink river with dolphins, saw giant ants and sloths in their natural habitat. She actually did not wash herself or her clothes for the week she was there, in fact stayed mostly in the same clothes and obviously sampled the delights of the al fresco loo experience away from camp and the other travellers.

Charity massage day, Saturday 20th October
We are offering 30 minute massages for donation only.
Kayti is raising money for The ABC Fund, a local charity that raises money for disadvantaged children, families who are finding it hard to make ends meet and disabled children, to have a great day out. The money raised for the ABC Fund goes entirely to giving families a day out to remember, treats, make special memories and relax and unwind.
Kayti also wanted to do something that would be a personal challenge -
and has decided to canoe down the Amazon!
She will be going on 25th May 2019 (the day after her 42nd birthday!!) with a group of 6 other fundraisers – she has a goal of £4500 so please do support ABC Fund and sponsor her in her challenge!
Trekking, hiking, canoeing, sleeping in a hammock (that she sets up herself), fishing for her dinner,
learning jungle skills (just call her Bear!).

Holding for Healing - Women's Workshop Thursday 18th July 7.00-9.30pm - Finished
"Enter the Circle and Receive the Warmth and Nourishment to be found in Human Connection and Loving Touch"
Christine Harris and Helen Thatcher offer this wonderful and unique workshop to allow you to relax, let go and receive the nourishing benefits of being held.
Our main motivation for offering this workshop is to share the mutual benefits of being held of an extend period of time. We promote safety, self-responsibility in a non-sexual and fully clothed environment.
Helen has a strong background in supporting others to feel valued and appreciated in life using the tools of dance, movement, meditation, physical touch and hugs through her work as a Vital Development facilitator.
Chris has worked for many years in the counselling and therapeutic environments, in particular holding safe spaces for those wishing to make changes in their lives.
Together they are now offering a professional one-to-one cuddling therapy called Holding for Healing. In it's essence this is a technique that nurtures on all levels.
This workshop is an opportunity for you to have a flavour of their work in a group setting.
Hugs, cuddles and human touch have a wonderful impact on our physical system. When we are engaged in touch, our brains produce more serotonin and oxytocin. Both of these chemicals make us calm and happy and contribute to an overall sense of well-being and relaxation that is pleasurable and healthy.
Investment £16
Limited to 8 participants.
We expect all participants to arrive freshly showered, in clean clothes and having brushed their teeth.
This is for the comfort of everyone.
