Deborah Brown - TRE, Trauma Release Exercise
TRE stands for Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises. TRE is actually a process rather than simply a series of exercises that involves grounding, pacing and regulation, and initially the presence of a TRE Provider is recommended.
The process connects us with a natural reflex to release contraction and tension from the body from the inside out. We naturally contract when we feel unsafe due to pathways of survival in the neurophysiology, known as fight, flight and freeze. However with chronic stress and trauma these neural pathways become stuck in the on position, so our bodies think we are in danger when we are actually safe. This is a primitive, instinctive survival response rather than one that is rational or controlled by the mind.
We can experience hyper vigilance, anxiety, stress, strong emotions, pain, depression, poor sleep and physical ailments such as IBS symptoms, cardiovascular or breathing problems, pain, low energy and chronic fatigue.
The tremors and involuntary movements we experience through TRE are natural and involuntary. They are the releasing aspect of the stress response, switching off cortisol and rebooting the nervous system. They are organic healing at its most primitive as the 'tremor mechanism' is within all mammals, and we are mammals! TRE helps us reboot this mechanism and use it consciously and safely to support us in our daily life and to work with health issues and trauma.
TRE can be used by itself with other modalities. It is supportive alongside therapy for trauma work to meet the body aspect of healing.
Most people find the movements unusual at first yet interesting and even enjoyable. Once learnt with a TRE Provider you can ‘shake’ at home or in groups to support you in releasing everyday stress and tension, and working hrough to working through trauma.
First session 90 minutes
Follow up sessions 60 minutes £80
